
Is a fear of drawing holding back your art practice and dreams?
The ACAC is delighted to announce that we have a solution! Jan Shepherd McKee has agreed to teach a fun and supportive, drawing fundamentals class at the ACAC. This class is suitable for absolute beginners to the more experienced artist.
Over a three week period, students will learn basic drawing skills using a variety of mark making materials as selected by the student. We will touch upon figure drawings, landscapes, scale composition as well as individual and collaborative practice. By the conclusion of the class, we are confident that the student will no longer feel as intimidated by the drawing process. You may even learn to love drawing!
At the conclusion of the class the student will have produced a drawing on paper using the student's desired medium (Pencil, marker, charcoal, conte etc...) Further drawings at home between classes is encouraged.
Students to bring to class:
Drawing implements such as pencils, markers, charcoal, conte or any favourite drawing tool.. Large format paper or sketchbooks (18”x24”, 45.7 by 61 cm or larger). Erasers are optional. Kneadable erasures are preferred.
This three week course costs:
Members: $50 + $10 material fee (Material fee is paid to instructor on day of first class)
Non Members: $60 + $10 material fee (Material fee is paid to instructor on day of first class).

About Jan Shepherd McKee,
Jan Shepherd McKee is a recently retired, award winning professor and senior administrator at the University of Western Ontario. She has taught Visual Art at a number of universities and has worked in Washington, D.C. for the Smithsonian Institute, making archival paper and teaching printmaking at Pyramid Atlantic. Jan was the Artist in Residence at the Faculty of Engineering at Western for a record twenty years and taught in Engineering for 33 years. She developed a integrated approach to education in Visual Art, Science, Engineering, Law and Business. Jan started drawing as a small child and has been a professional artist for the whole of her adult life.
