Johnny is back with another two day, intensive, willow basketry class!

This time, we will be making a round harvest backet. This will be an appropriate class for enthusiastic beginners and those with experience working with willow.

In this two day intensive class we will be learning round slath bases, twining, three wood wale, French rand fill techniques, trac border, handles (as pictured) and foot borders (time permitting). We will also be learning about material selection, and proper hand positioning while weaving.

Expect long days of focused, intensive handwork in order to go home with your own, one of a kind harvest basket.

In this class we will be using cultivated basketry willows grown in Ontario, however the techniques can also be used with wild willow, dogwood and other found woody materials that have the same long, flexible characteristics.

Disclaimer: Weaving willow is essentially braiding wood! Willow is a tough material and although basketry can be a very peaceful and meditative practice, it does take some time to learn. Please consider how a day or two of repetitive twisting of your wrists and pointed pressure with your fingers will leave you feeling. In short, if you have trouble with working with your hands, this class may not be the best class for you. The course is suitable for ages 16+ years.

This is a rapid registration course. No refunds will be offered should your plans change. It is however a truly remarkable experience and opportunity if you have dreamed of basket making.

Class participants to bring:

their lunch,

a good pair of hand pruners (secateurs)

Pen and paper

spray bottle for water

an old towel

There will be a material fee of $60 in addition to the class course fee. This material fee is paid directly to the teacher on Day 1 of the class.
