Let There Be Stitches: Beginner's Embroidery with Jess Blackmore

Have you ever stood looking at a piece of embroidery and thought, "I wish I could do that?" Well you absolutely can! Embroidery is a craft and a skill, and these are things that anyone can learn. 

This course, taught by the highly respected Jess Blackmore, will introduce the students to the absolute basics of surface embroidery. Even if you have never handled a needle, this will get you on the path. In a single, six-hour class you will be exposed to such fundamental skills as:

- Selecting materials, 

-Using tools like needles, hoops and embroidery stitches

-Becoming comfortable in reading pattern symbols

-Practicing everything from threading the needle to finishing your project.

At the end of the day you will have a unique, handy pin cushion and the fundamentals of embroidery in hand.

The cost for this class is $45 for Members and $55 for Non Members

Student Supplies to Bring

- small, sharp, pointed thread scissors

- sharp fabric scissors (blades 3'-4" long)

Kit Fee $25 payable to teacher on the day of the class

Includes all material for the pin cushion project. Kit includes stuffing, threads, embroidery hoop and sundry tools necessary to complete the sampler and pin cushion and begin a life enriched with embroidery.

About Jess Blackmore

Jess has a life long love affair with textiles, colours and patterns. She has worked in both the Shaw and Stratford Festival Wardrobe departments for over ten years. During that time she fell in love with knitting, tatting, lace-making, crochet, quilting and embroidery. Jess is a member of C.E.G. (Canadian Embroidery Guild) where she is a frequent instructor.
