Instructor:  DESEDAMAS – MERCÈ GONZÁLEZ

You will learn the use of transparencies to create new fabrics and effects that can be applied to many different works. Silk adds its own properties: natural fabric, shiny, can easily be dyed at home to get their own color palettes.

We will work mainly with the following qualities of silk: organza, cheesecloth and chiffon crêpe. Based on the different qualities of silk, we will create new fabrics with which to develop artistic works, clothing and accessories. We introduce the pojagi technique in a very simple and quick way, set overlapping geometric shapes and voids; overlapping layers of cheesecloth to create a lightweight, durable and reversible tissue; overlay tissue strips to have a highly textured fabric.

These techniques enhance the lightness, transparency and etherealness organza and cheesecloth, contrasting with the intense color that dying gave them. You can create artwork that’s really spectacular.
