Event Details
Students will work with freezer paper and NZ flora and fauna themed patterns to create stencils, which they will then use to create their own unique compositions. We will experiment with positive and negative stencils, layering images and reversing. Each student will select their favourite works to create a small wall hanging. Students will also learn the Maori names for the patterns and have a lesson in Maori pronunciation.

Instructor: Charlotte Scott
I am a New Zealand based textile artist. My work depicts narratives of the natural world and my medium is cloth, needle and thread. I am deeply inspired by the unique flora and fauna of New Zealand and by trying to capture the distinctive colours we have surrounding us. I colour my own cloth, either with dye or paint, then I cut, layer and quilt my work, using the texture of the quilting stitches as an integral element of the final design. I host a podcast called The New Zealand Quilt Show. It showcases the quilting talent we have in Oceania by interviewing well-known quilters and industry professionals. When I am not making quilts, I am a part-time midwife, a wife and a mother.
