  • 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM
  • Ye Olde Town Hall: Upper Auditorium (Elevator provided)

Join Guðrún Kolbeins for this 1 hr lecture discussing the fascinating world of Icelandic wool.  Fee is free with paid ticket to Quilts of Iceland.

The fleece of the Icelandic sheep is dual-coated,an outer coat that is longer called tog and an inner coat, softer and shorter called þel.  These woolen fibers processed together is called lopi.  The wool is very warm and fun to knit, it is just your fantasy that puts a limit to what you can make from it.  Generations of Icelanders have used it to knit caps, scarves, shawls, mittens and traditional Icelandic sweaters.  The audiences will see different woolen types and gain insight into the Icelandic knitting tradition and patterns.
