Machine Optional

Asdis will take you through the basics of creating textile art using free motion machine embroidery and/or hand stitching. Create your own textured block using a variety of fabrics and freehand embroidery.


Asdis will show you some of the techniques and effects that you can achieve in this very simple process. Mixing different fabrics, threads and textile colors either by hand or by using a machine. Draw your own picture, use a photograph for inspiration, if you prefer, and make it unique.

Materials to bring:

  • -          Callico backing fabric in a light color
  • -          Stabiliser (for backing)
  • -          Textured fabrics in light colors
  • -          Chiffon or silk ( poliester ), flower trims or lace, small scraps for flowers
  • -          Yarns (cotton and wool)
  • -          Embroidery thread
  • -          Fabric paints or watercolour pencils, etc.
  • -          Basic sewing kit: scissors, pins, needles, etc.
  • -          Sewing machine is optional
  • Ásdís Finnadóttir holds a B.Ed. that specalises in textiles. She worked as an elementary teacher for ten years and has taught many textile courses over that time. Textile and crafts have been a hobby of hers for decades and has become more than just a hobby over the last few years.
